We are delighted to offer this 1958 Jaguar 2.4 litre Saloon that, in today's market, is a rare sight indeed. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Williams Lyons, Chairman of Jaguar Cars Ltd. and Bill Heynes, Jaguar's Chief Engineer and designer of the iconic Jaguar XK power unit, were working on the idea of a compact, unitary constructed saloon to be powered by a short-stroke version of the six-cylinder engine. William Lyons, once again, hit the market with the right product at the right price, the new car being able to be purchased for under £1,300 including tax. The Jaguar's Heritage Trust Certificate records that this Jaguar was manufactured on 2nd December 1958 with the colour of Mist Grey with red interior trim and was dispatched on 5th December to Robb Motors, Cape Town, South Africa and sold by them to a Mr. A Barr. 

A well detailed history file includes the original sales invoice and details of the five owners the Jaguar has had whilst residing in South Africa. The second owner, acquiring the Jaguar in 1966, a Mrs. Margretta Cousins who bequeathed the Jaguar (and a gun), on her passing in 1997, to her son Michael Cousins. The 4th owner, having acquired the Jaguar in 2006, changed the colour from Mist Grey to Old English White.  On the 20th November 2014, John Ryall sold the car to a Mr Chris Cutler who became the 5th owner in 55 years. Mr Ryall celebrates the purchase of his new Jaguar almost immediately, by purchasing a new set of tyres (including spare). Then in May 2015, re-commissioning works were undertaken. Items such as the brakes, clutch master cylinder, propshaft, water pump, suspension bushes, new seals and washers, electric fuel pump, differential oil, full service and numerous little jobs were completed. With the odometer now reading 101,350 miles, Mr Cutler hit the road and 250 miles later, tired of wrestling with the heavy steering, opted to have a discreet electric power steering system fitted. Thinking he'd reached motoring nirvana, Mr Ryall enjoyed a full four blissful months before his classic Jaguar 'failed to proceed'. The car was recovered and delivered to Steve Marsh Classic Autos to have the cylinder head reconditioned, a knock from the left front cured and some door locks replaced. On a recent test, it was noticed just how smooth the 2.4 litre engine actually is. Able to up with modern traffic, the overdrive gearbox is of particular benefit and the fact that she's now knocking on the door of 59 years of age just adds to the occasion.

Today, 875 UYT presents well. The attractive Old English White coachwork is in good order and the contrasting red leather interior is also good whilst displaying areas of patina with sections of the front seats having been replaced with new leather panels. The history file confirms that this is a UK registered Jaguar with no previously recorded UK owners and with all the relevant UK import duties having been paid; also included is an original Jaguar Operating, Maintenance and Service Handbook and an MoT test certificate valid until October 2017. With the Mk. I Saloon now becoming quite scarce, we feel that this Jaguar is offered with a very tempting estimate, especially given today's market.
