With only 1,286 cars produced for the home market during 1955 and 1957 by Standard-Triumph, according to the TR Register as of 2002, there remain only 893 registered TR3/3A's on UK roads.  Although it was usually supplied as an open two-seater, an occasional rear seat and bolt on steel hard top were available as extras. The four-speed manual transmission could be supplemented by an overdrive unit on the top three ratios, electrically operated and controlled by a switch on the dash. In 1956, the front brakes changed from drum to disc, becoming the first British series production car to be so fitted.  Because of these disc brakes, the TR3 and subsequent TR3A's became known for their superior braking ability, making it an autocross favourite.  Updates also included new wide front grill, exterior door handles, lockable boot handle and a full tool kit as standard, although the TR3A's still retained the 1991cc engine.

With precious little body-work to speak of, it is of little surprise that these quickly became a formidable competitor on the rally circuit, racing successfully in such events as the RAC, Monte Carlo, Liège-Rome-Liège and the Coupe des Alpes rallies. This striking example has benefitted from a full strip down and restoration, not by a regular mechanic, but by a gentleman who understands rallying, an experienced hand and someone with some success to his name.  Imported originally from the USA as a road car and after a full bare-metal restoration, additional works began including the instillation of electronic timers, roll-cage, bucket seats, competition seat-belts and a fire-extinguisher. A vital additional extra was a Helphos suction rally lamp, anyone who has tried to read a road sign in the dark will appreciate how useful this is. This has been well campaigned, used successfully on the modern-day Liège-Rome-Liège and the 2016 Vintage Sun Run and represents a well-prepared and 'turn-key' rally car, whether you are hustling to the front of the grid or enjoying a pleasant lunch along the way.
