Designed by Alex Issigonis in 1959, a new concept in car design was born.  With a monocoque shell, transversely mounted engine and front wheel drive, the new 'Mini', soon became popular across a broad spectrum of the population.  The potential for competition use was soon seen by John Cooper; BMC were finally persuaded by John Cooper and the two worked together in culminating the birth of the Austin Mini Cooper and the Morris Mini Cooper in 1961. Victories in the 1964, 1965 and 1967 Monte-Carlo Rallies set the Mini on the road to fame but probably the greatest publicity was gained from their, somewhat unfair, disqualification for lighting irregularities in the 1966 event after coming in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. A more powerful Mini Cooper, dubbed the 'S', was developed in tandem and released in 1963. Approximately 2,500 Mk.II Cooper S were built making it one of the rarest versions of this very collectible motor car.

This particular example is finished in its original colour scheme of Island Blue with a Snowberry White roof and black interior. This charming car was built on 14th April 1969 and despatched three days later on the 17th and sold through Joseph Cockshoot and Company of Bury, Lancashire. The car was first registered on 10th October 1969 and still retains its original Lancashire registration number; UTC 360H. Only four former keepers have had the pleasure of owning this car with the last keeper owning the car for 36 years. During his loving ownership, the car has had its original 1275cc engine rebuilt with a gas flowed head by Harris Motorsport, (Harris was one of Downton's apprentices), with power fed through a straight cut gearbox.

The history file contains a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, old MoT test certificates dating back to 1979 and service history and invoices dating back to 1969. A current V5 document and a current MoT test certificate valid until July accompany the car as well as jack tools.

Offering all the performance and charm as the Mk.I at a fraction of the price, this Mk.II Cooper S is a fantastic opportunity to own a piece of motoring history.
