The Jaguar Mk. VIII was introduced at the 1956 London Motor Show and shared its 10-foot wheelbase with its predecessor, the Jaguar Mk. VII, which outwardly it closely resembled. However, the interior fittings were more luxurious than those of the Mk. VII. Distinguishing visually between the models is facilitated by changes to the front grille, the driving or fog lamps being moved from the front panel to the horizontal panel between bumper and front panel, larger rear lamps and, most obviously, a curved chrome trim strip below the waistline which allowed the factory to offer a variety of two-tone paint schemes. In addition, the new car had rear spats that were cut back to display more of the rear wheels and featured a one-piece slightly curved windscreen, where the Mk. VII had incorporated a two-piece front screen of flat glass. The Mk. VIII inherited from its predecessor, the 3442cc straight six- speed automatic engine which it shared with the Jaguar XK140 that appeared two years earlier with the claimed top speed in excess of 106mph, considered impressive given the car's bulk. Transmission options included overdrive or a Borg Warner three- box.

Rolling off the Bown's Lane production line on 23rd April, 1958, this fine example is fitted with the desirable manual gearbox with overdrive. Dispatched on 2nd May 1958, it was sold through distributor Henlys Limited of London and through dealer Saul & Sutter of Palmers Green, London. The first owner was E.H Fairbairn of Tottenham, London, as confirmed by the Heritage Trust Certificate and original buff log book that accompanies the car. The large history file has old MoT test certificates dating back to the early 1990s, a current item valid until April next year, various bills and receipts through the years. The Heritage Trust Certificate also confirms the car is fitted with its original engine block and original registration number. The current owner purchased the car in 2008 with the previous owner acquiring the car in 1996. It has resided in a collection consisting of blue chip classics and modern supercars. Since his purchase, work was carried out on the brakes with the cylinders being replaced along with new brake linings and hoses being fitted. New front and rear Koni shock absorbers where also fitted at the same time. Resplendent in grey coachwork with a contrasting red hide interior, the cockpit is a joy with stunning wood veneer dashboard and sunroof. With only 158 known survivors, this charming example is perfect for family and friends to enjoy luxurious motoring.
