The Fronty-Ford was advertised as "a one man racing car", "will win for you" and "the best proof of the Fronty-Ford, speed and reliability is found in its performance in the 500 mile race, May 30th 1923, in which it was placed fifth, defeating all foreign entries".Alfred Moss, father of Formula One driver, Sir Stirling Moss and rallying champion, Pat Moss, arrived in Indianapolis, Indiana to study Advanced Dental Practice at the Indiana Dental College in 1923. Alfred, already a dentist, perhaps had another reason to be in Indiana? He wished to participate in the Indianapolis 500 race and on Friday, May 30 1924, 22 cars began the 12th running of the Indianapolis 500. Amongst them was Alfred, who finished respectably in 16th place in a Fronty-Ford racing car.

We are delighted to offer this recreation of the Alfred Moss car that ran the Brickyard in 1924.  The coachwork was constructed in aluminium and placed upon a modified Ford Model T chassis. The build, was to a high specification that incorporated a genuine Frontenac cylinder head and a Warford auxiliary three-speed gearbox. The cylinder head is of an overhead valve design and increased the power of the standard four cylinder Fords whilst the gearbox allows for one of three different ratios to be selected prior to setting off which when combined with the usual Model T two-speeds makes for a total of six forward gears (with Model T pedal arrangement). The vendor has informed us that he has not had the Fronty out of 2nd high gear as, apparently, he was clocked by a following car doing 70mph and feared what speed might be achieved in the higher ratio! Use of the hand throttle and advance/retard lever keeps the car running easily in all conditions. The steering is precise and with the Fronty being of lightweight construction, allows easy placement of the car on the road.  The engine is tuned and as well as the Fronenac cylinder head, is fitted with a Model A crankshaft, high compression pistons, period performance carburettor, racing exhaust manifold and a lightened and balanced flywheel mated to an upgraded clutch. To aid reliability, the Fronty runs a 12 volt electrical system, alternator and electric fuel and water pumps. Of note is the rare and original Frontenac radiator temperature gauge that is in working order. Within the history file is a copy of the Fronty-Ford and Frontenac Cylinder Heads sales brochures as well as Instructions for Operating the Warford Heavy Duty Transmission.

This Ford is in fabulous condition and certainly looks the part whilst being UK registered as a Ford Model T Sports it is also MoT test exempt. We are informed that the Fronty is road legal and an absolute hoot to drive!
