Like the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Stag was styled by Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoque construction, independent suspension, disc/drum brakes, power-assisted rack and also the pinion steering and driveline of that saloon. The power plant, though, was an all-new OHC, V8 of 3000cc capacity fed by a pair of Stromberg carburettors and the newcomer received a warm reception at the time of launch in 1970. Most Stags were fitted with a Borg Warner automatic gearbox, as indeed is this one with electric windows, power steering and power-assisted brakes fitted as standard. Very desirable, the Stag is well supported through various clubs and specialist suppliers.

This exceptionally low mileage Stag is in remarkably original condition and drives like new, having covered a mere 47,000 miles. It features its original Triumph V8 which sounds glorious thanks to an expensive Langford stainless steel exhaust fitted many years ago, the only non-standard feature on the car. Finished in striking Magenta with contrasting black trim, the vendor has owned the car for twelve years and it has been maintained by renowned Stag specialist Roger Morrish at Abinger Hammer Motors. The car has only had three owners; the second, a motor engineer in Kingston, owned the car for 25 years! The car is in fine fettle, it pulls strongly, has a smooth gearbox, lovely direct steering, and a sublime exhaust note. This Triumph Stag is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in June 2018, a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate and MoT's dating right back to the first test it had in 1977. In addition, it benefits from a very nice cherished plate, 74 WHY, being most appropriate given its year of registration. There is also an excellent Magenta hardtop to go with this car. Good examples like this only go up in value.
